This screen shot is of the music video itself specifically the first frame.This area was important as it showed me if the picture behind the green screen was fit properly.















This shows the individual frames shown here including the green screen footage, background pictures and and background music.This is an important part as it is where i made sure every bit of footage was smooth with the music so that the miming matched the song.





This screen shot shows the folders containing the footage the music used and  some of the pictures.This is also where i went to find specific effects that i wanted to use for a part of the video.
















This screen shot shows where i would edit the footage putting the pictures where the green screen would have been.This is also where i made sure that the quality of the footage was as good as it could be so it didn't look off.










This screen shot is of the text i added to the music video by accessing the new item and then you can chose what you want to type and the colour you want it to be.

Stages of production

The three stages of production are pre production, the actual production and post production this blog will give information about all three stages and how they are important.

Pre-Production

Pre-production is the process of fixing some of the elements involved in making a film or music video.In terms of film pre-productions begin when a project has been greenlit  which is when a project has been allowed to go on.This stage is mainly about finalising preparations for the production.This includes confirmed financing and key elements for the production e.g. cast members, director and cinematographer.At this point the screenplay has also been finalised and is agreed on by all financiers and other stakeholders.The script at this point is also broke down into separate scenes for the production.It is also the the point when the sets are made and all the crew who do the behind the camera work are hired.All of this is done with a very detailed schedule t make sure everything is ready for the actual production part of the process.
In terms of music videos it is when the recording artists crate and define their musical ideas.This is then followed by a demo recording to establish a premise.

Production

The production stage is the part where all the filming takes place.The goal of principal photography is obviously to record all required shots.Pick-up shots may be required when a mistake is noticed, a script change is made (this is unusual), or even if a performance is deemed to be unsatisfactory.In terms of music it is about the creative direction of the music video.The production stage is usually the quickest stage of the stages. 

Post-Production

     This includes tasks such as the editing of raw footage to cut scenes, insert transition effects, working with voice and sound actors, and dubbing, to name a few of the many pre-production tasks

Michel Gondry

Michel Gondry is a french independent film director, screenwriter and producer.He is noted for his inventive visual style and distinctive manipulation of mise en scène.

He was born on May 8th in 1963 making him 53 years old.His parents are Marie-Noëlle Gondry. He has a brother called Oliver Gondry and a Child called Paul Gondry.

Michel Gondry also has an academy award for best original screenplay.

One of the songs Michel Gondry directed was Hardest button to button by the white stripes. The song is said to be about a child having a hard time finding his place in a dysfunctional family when a new baby comes.
Some of the conventions he used can be seen here which are:
1.Stop motion is used here in the form of the artists and their instruments being edited to appear slightly in-front of them selves each time.An interesting thing to point out is that the stop motion happens after a beat of the drum making the stop motion in rhythm with the music.
2.The artists also appear in this showing of another convention.
3.Instroments also appear in this also show a convention.
4.Reverse motion is used here as the music video progress making it seem as if the drums are coming out of nowhere.To have this done Gondry used 32 identical drum kits,32 identical amplifiers and 16 identical microphone stands.
5.Lipsyncing is used here so it appear that he is singing when really the music and lyrics are being played in the background of the video.

Matt Lucas

Matt Lucas

Matthew Richard Lucas is a English comedian, screenwriter, actor and singer.He is best known for his work with David Walliams on Little Britain.
He was born in Paddington,London March 5th 1974.

Little Britain was his most famous and most notable role which he both wrote and acted in as apparently "disabled" Andy Pipkin, teenage Bristol chav Vicky Pollard, homophobic homosexual Daffyd Thomas, and insensitive slimming club organiser Marjorie Dawes.

Matt is a patron of the Karen Morris Memorial Trust(charity for leukaemia patients and their families).He even appeared on "celebrity who wants to be a millionaire?" and won the charity £62,500. 

Robert Popper

Robert Popper

Robert Popper is a British comedy producer, writer, actor and author. (Information found from RobertPopper.com)

 

His full name is Robert Darren Popper and he was born in London.

As a writer he wrote three books the timewaster letters, return of the timewaster letters and the timewaster diaries.

He made his first actual television appearance as a comedian on the eleven o clock show as Simon Michael Simon. He then later left to work on his first series of look around you with Peter Serafinowicz which was nominated for a BAFTA and a British Comedy Award in 2003. Robert appeared in Simon Pegg and Edger Wright’s movies hot fuzz with a role with only three lines which were “ I’m not Janine”.

From the Skype call with Robert Popper we asked the following questions and received the following answers

1.Did you go to university and how did you get into the media industry?

His reply was yes I went to Manchester University and studied French and Italian. To get into the industry back then you had to write a letter to a producer and to be different I wrote a mad insane letter to the producer to make me look unique.

2.Do you prefer to work behind or in front of the camera and why?

To this he replied I like to work behind a camera, as I like to oversee everything like a producer would.

3.Whats your favourite thing you’ve worked on? 

To this he replied the favourite thing I’ve worked on would have to be Look Around You but I also enjoyed writing The Timewaster Letters series. 

4.How and where do you get your inspiration for writing from?

To this he replied the Friday Night Dinner was inspired from personal experiencers with his family.

5. Do you choose the actors who play your characters?

To this he replied that all that helped with the creation of the idea get to help choose the actors. He also said that if he didn’t like the actor then he could refuse to work with them.

6.How do you end up working with the same actors?

We asked if it was just a coincidence but he said that in this business you find people that you like and when you see a part where you think they would be great in it you give a suggestion for that person.

7.Can you tell us about your role in Hot Fuzz and why it wasn’t it a big role?

He said that he found the role from his acting friend Simon Bird who offered him a role in the movie but didn’t say how big of a role it was until they started shooting. 

8.How does script editing work?

He said that when script editing the main thing first is to think of an idea that would sound like a good story. As a side note he said that sometimes the stories are based off of real life experiences but have to be changed as even if t may be true other might see it as being unrealistic.

9.Can you explain what is involved in being a producer? 

He said that being a producer means creating an image in your head of what you want to accomplish for this movie or TV series and turn that into reality.

10.What is involved with being a commissioning editor, what have you commissioned and do you have any regrets?

His reply was that he doesn’t anything and his favourite part about being one is seeing all the bad ideas as they make him laugh. He also said that a commissioning editor is someone who checks on everything.

11.How has the industry changed in the last 20 years?

He replied by saying that he started as a runner and they didn’t have internet so everything had to be done with letters. And finally he also said that back then they allowed you to make some really weird things back then.

From listening to the song Rockstar and watching the music video it has shown me some possible ways of editing for the video and has also given me some ideas for my music video for the song.
First thing i could see from the video is that there was probably a heavy amount of editing for the jump cuts to seem almost none existent for the transitions between different people as they lip synced the song.

Skills

To create this idea i will need to develop my editing skills so i can figure out how to do split screen.I will also need to develop my camera skills so i can work a camera.I will also need to develop my planning skills to make sure everything is organised.I will also need to develop my researching skills.I also need to develop my storyboarding skills to create a good narrative.

Creative Exploration

To develop my editing skills i will do some experimenting with editing to see what i like and what i don't like.To develop my camera skills i will work with a camera to see what shots work and what ones  don't .To develop my planning skills i will learn about the process of pre-production.To develop my researching skills i will experiment with different kinds of research.To develop my storyboarding and timing skills i will film the story board for a set amount of seconds each time until it is the length of the music video.  

Ideas For Music Video

From watching the music video has given me some thoughts and ideas for the editing in the video.

My first idea is the i noticed that it only transitioned to one fun camera shot so what if it the screen was split into sections so multiple people would appear on the screen in the separate sections lip syncing.

Another idea would be to have people playing air guitar when the lyrics say "I wanna be a rockstar."

From speaking with James Clark and learning that he doesn't mind how we decide to edit the video i have now got a few more ideas for the music video.

For the parts that mention objects like baseball we can have some one using something like a baseball bat.
For the big black jet part we can shoot it in the travel and tourism room as there is an aeroplane there.
For the tour bus we could use the ones outside of oscroft. For guitars we could ask music to see if we can borrow any.
When the song is talking about eating meals for free we can shoot it in the bistro with some one not paying for food.

Task 2

For my music video(Rockstar) i am doing for the client i have done and will do many forms of primary and secondary research for it.

Research I Have Done

So far i have done two different kinds of primary research these are:

.I have spoken to our client James Clark about how he would like us to make the music video.His response is that he wants it to be unique about who we do with the music video.The medias involvement with the event is

.editing a charity VT to be played during choir performance


For secondary research i have :

.Watched the original music video of Rockstar to look for any potential ideas .

.I have watched different music videos to also look for ideas.

Research I Could Do

For primary research i could do i could:

.Talk to other people also doing the music video to see if they have any ideas.

.Talk to people around the college(students and teachers)to see if they have any interesting ideas for the video.
These ideas would be better than the ones for secondary research as i am getting he information directly.

For secondary research i could:

.Go to the library and look for any books on music videos 

.Look online to see if the internet can give me any ideas.

.Look in music magazines for any music videos that have been edited in an interesting way.

Comparing Primary And Secondary

Researching different types of editing by actually editing some footage is better than watching different music videos for editing ideas as i find it is better to experiment with these types of editing better than just seeing  what other people have edited in a certain way.
 I also think that the fact that i talked to James about what he wants for the music video is better than asking other people if they have any ideas as James would have thought this through as it is for his show.

Today we have learned about the basics of using a green screen.the basics of it is that you stand infrount of a green background and then preforming an action infrount of it. After that we put the footage on to premire which is when we used ultra key to get rid of the green background which then resulted in some people becoming pink and purple due to the colour balance being off.This however was sorted once had put a new background video to replace the green screen.We then began to experiment with the green screen footage we had and ended up with some pretty funny results for instance i used the same footage 3 time at different frames to make it appear that there were three of me doing the same actions at different times.This was the final product that as made from my expermenting .

Editing Experimentation

Today we have started learning the basics of editing and then have experimented with that editing to see what we can come up with.These are the steps we took.

1. First of all we went onto launchpad and went onto premiere pro.

 2.We then had to start a new project by clicking new project.

3. next is the settings menu.
                             

                                4.this is an extension of the settings menu.                                   

5.this is where you would do all the editing and adjustments of the video or music.                                                           

6.Importing files is what allows you to get them files.

7.this is where you will find all the video footage you have acquired or downloaded.This can be found in the bottom left corner of the screen. 

8.this is where you will be able to save your work.All the work i did was saved into the PROJECTS folder.
